Phoenix Police Arrest 24-Year-Old in August Alley Sexual Assault Case on Attempted Murder Charge

Court documents say the suspect admitted to the assault during a police interview.

  • Luis Gustavo Prudente Tapia, 24, was arrested late last week and booked on attempted second-degree murder, kidnapping, sexual assault and four counts of aggravated assault.

  • Detectives documented a blood trail and collected two used condoms, a pair of men’s shorts with a soccer logo and a single slide-style sandal at the scene.
  • A woman’s tip and social-media video clips helped detectives identify Tapia, who was located after a search warrant and questioned on Sept. 20.
  • According to court filings, Tapia admitted to having sex with the victim against her will and physically assaulting her, refused to provide a DNA sample and is awaiting his next court date.
