Overview
- On July 24, Phoenix police responded to reports of four children locked inside a parked car near 24th and Washington streets in triple-digit heat
- Officers found the interior temperature at about 125°F while the children’s internal readings neared 100°F, showing clear signs of heat distress
- The rescued children, ages 2, 3, 4 and 7, were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and are expected to recover fully
- Their father, 38-year-old Ascencio Largo, was arrested after spending nearly an hour in a nearby adult store and booked on eight felony counts of child abuse and endangerment
- The Department of Child Safety has opened a separate investigation into the circumstances of the incident
