Phillies Activate Trea Turner for Finale in Cautious Tune-Up Before NLDS

Philadelphia will limit his Game 162 workload to protect his hamstring for the NLDS opener on Oct. 4.

Overview

  • Manager Rob Thomson said Turner will start at shortstop in Game 162 with only a few innings planned after he was cleared by the medical staff.
  • The shortstop returns for the first time since Sept. 7 following a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and is batting leadoff in the finale.
  • Philadelphia is locked into the National League's No. 2 seed with a first-round bye and will host NLDS Game 1 on Saturday.
  • In a corresponding move, right-hander Max Lazar was optioned to the rookie-level Florida Complex League Phillies.
  • Turner enters the final day leading the NL with a .305 average and 179 hits as he contends for a second career batting title.
