Philadelphia Launches Pilot for Extended-Day and Year-Round Schooling

Mayor Parker's initiative aims to provide academic support and childcare across 25 schools, with a focus on voluntary participation.

The pilot includes 20 district schools and 5 charter schools, offering free before- and aftercare, as well as programming during school breaks and summer.
The initiative targets K-8 students, aiming to support both academic needs and working parents.
Participation in the program is voluntary, with no mandatory year-round attendance required.
The program's success will be assessed before considering a transition to formal year-round schooling.
$20 million in contracts with outside providers have been approved to support the initiative.
