Derek Barnett, the Philadelphia Eagles defensive end and 14th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, has been waived by the team.
Barnett, who re-signed a two-year extension with the Eagles in 2022, has had a reduced role this season, participating in just 15% of the team's defensive snaps.
Despite a successful 2021 campaign, Barnett was sidelined for almost the entirety of the 2022 season due to an ACL tear and returned in a reduced role in 2023.
The Eagles may be considering adding another veteran, Indianapolis Colts linebacker Shaquille Leonard, who cleared waivers Wednesday and is now a free agent.
Barnett finishes his Eagles career with 150 tackles, 37 tackles for loss and 76 quarterback hits in 73 appearances.
