Philadelphia Cyclist Arrested for Series of Knife Attacks on Park Trail

  • Elias Diaz, 46, was arrested on Sunday and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and related offenses in connection with a series of knife attacks on the Pennypack Park Trail in Philadelphia.
  • The first attack occurred on Nov. 22 when a jogger was slashed multiple times in the hands and arms by Diaz, who was riding a bicycle and brandishing a machete.
  • Two days later, another person was attacked while walking on the trail, sustaining lacerations to the right arm and hands.
  • On Nov. 25, a man riding a BMX-style bicycle became verbally aggressive with someone on the trail, but the person was able to leave unharmed.
  • Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the attacks.
