PGR Backs Cutting Roberto Jefferson’s STF Sentence to Three Years

Prosecutors cite time served as grounds for a shorter term pending conduct records.

Overview

  • Brazil’s Prosecutor General filed the recommendation with Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes, who will issue the decision.
  • The document signed by Paulo Gonet supports a defense request to reduce the prison term to three years.
  • The PGR asked the Rio Penal Executions Court and the 4th Federal Criminal Court for reports on Jefferson’s behavior during custody.
  • Jefferson was sentenced by the STF in December 2023 to 9 years, 1 month and 5 days for incitement, attacks on institutions, homophobia and defamation, and he remains on house arrest for health reasons.
  • In a separate case over his armed resistance to re-arrest, the TRF-2 ruled that the resulting federal sentence be served at home.
