PGR Asks STF to Reopen 2020 Probe Into Alleged Bolsonaro Interference in Federal Police

The move asks for new Federal Police steps to test possible ties to an alleged parallel ABIN scheme, including clandestine data access.

Overview

  • Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet formally urged relator Alexandre de Moraes to return the case to the Federal Police for complementary diligences.
  • Gonet requested a comparison of evidence with probes into the so‑called Abin Paralela, use of ABIN and the GSI, clandestine data access and coordinated disinformation.
  • The inquiry began after Sergio Moro’s 2020 allegations about pressure to change PF leadership, which the PF closed in 2022 with no crime found and the then‑vice PGR sought to archive.
  • The new filing cites WhatsApp messages from April 2020 on the removal of PF chief Maurício Valeixo and references to investigations involving pro‑Bolsonaro deputies.
  • In separate opinions this week, Gonet said two deputies lack standing to request Eduardo Bolsonaro’s preventive detention and recommended shelving a complaint against Gov. Tarcísio de Freitas.
