PGR Asked to Probe Toffoli’s Private Jet Trip as STF Allies Defend Him

Critics cite the appearance of bias after reports he flew with a Banco Master lawyer just before receiving the case.

Overview

  • São Paulo city councilor Cris Monteiro formally requested that the Prosecutor-General’s Office investigate Justice Dias Toffoli’s recent private flight.
  • According to reports, Toffoli traveled to Lima on businessman Luiz Osvaldo Pastore’s jet alongside attorney Augusto Arruda Botelho, who represents a Banco Master executive.
  • The Banco Master matter was assigned to Toffoli shortly after the trip, and on December 2 he placed elevated secrecy on parts of the investigation.
  • Senator Rodrigo Pacheco publicly argued the flight does not make Toffoli legally suspect or impeded and said the case’s handling in the Supreme Court under secrecy is appropriate.
  • Ex-prosecutor Deltan Dallagnol said the episode could justify an impeachment process, while STF president Edson Fachin proposed a Code of Conduct for justices.
