PG&E Schedules Two San Francisco Outages Next Week to Restore Mission Substation

PG&E says the brief overnight shut-offs will reconnect the fire-damaged Mission substation.

Overview

  • The first outage starts just after midnight Monday, Jan. 19, affecting about 3,600 Civic Center customers for up to 12 hours, with restoration expected by noon.
  • A second outage begins just after midnight Tuesday, Jan. 20, cutting power for about 14,000 customers in the Richmond district for roughly two hours.
  • The work returns the grid to normal after the Dec. 20 substation fire forced temporary rerouting and the use of mobile generators.
  • PG&E plans to remove the generators at 24th Avenue and Balboa Street once the substation is fully operational, which the utility says should curb recent brief outages in the Richmond and Golden Gate Park area.
  • Affected customers will receive text, voicemail, and email alerts, and PG&E directs questions to 800-743-5002, as city supervisors prepare a public hearing next month on response and claims.
