PGA Tour Pulls 2026 Sentry From Kapalua After Drought Cripples Course

Drought-driven water limits left the Plantation Course unfit for Tour play, leaving the 2026 opener's venue undecided.

Overview

  • The Tour cited drought, conservation mandates, agronomic damage and island logistics in ruling out Kapalua for the Jan. 8–11 signature event.
  • No replacement site or date has been named, while the Sony Open in Honolulu remains on schedule the following week.
  • The Tour’s agronomy team found the Plantation Course "significantly compromised" during an early-September inspection.
  • Kapalua closed the Plantation and Bay courses on Sept. 2 for at least 60 days to aid recovery after state-imposed irrigation cuts through the Honokōhau ditch.
  • A lawsuit filed Aug. 18 by Kapalua’s owner alleges Maui Land & Pineapple failed to maintain the water-delivery system, a claim the company disputes.
