PGA Tour Cancels The Sentry for 2026, Sets Sony Open as Season Opener

Prolonged drought, water limits and unresolved logistics left Kapalua’s Plantation Course unplayable, leading the Tour to scrap the event rather than relocate.

Overview

  • The Tour evaluated alternate sites in Hawaii and on the mainland but cited shipping deadlines, infrastructure needs and vendor support as insurmountable for 2026.
  • The 2026 season will now start at the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu on January 15–18.
  • Players who qualified for The Sentry solely via 2025 wins will be added to the RBC Heritage field, while FedExCup top‑50 players remain eligible for signature events.
  • Kapalua says the Plantation Course will partially reopen on November 10 with two greens still under restoration, as the Bay Course remains closed.
  • This is the Tour’s first tournament cancellation since 2020, and ongoing lawsuits and regulatory actions over Kapalua’s century‑old water system leave the event’s return uncertain.
