PGA Launches Health Insurance Initiative for Film and TV Producers

The groundbreaking effort seeks to bridge the benefits gap for producers, who currently lack union-backed health insurance.

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced a healthcare initiative to provide health insurance benefits for qualified full-time producers in the film and TV industry.
The initiative was unveiled at the PGA's annual awards ceremony, with Blumhouse, Legendary, MACRO, and Berlanti Productions already pledging support.
The PGA is asking production companies, studios, and streamers to contribute to the Motion Picture Industry Pension and Health Plan or include a line item in production budgets for producers to buy health insurance.
Unlike other creative guilds, producers lack a union, making the PGA's non-binding approach to securing health benefits a groundbreaking step.
The PGA aims to achieve industry-wide participation and cover the majority of its members by 2026.
