Pfizer to Cut 500 Jobs at UK Site Amid Cost-Cutting Effort

Move Follows Discontinuation of PSSM Operations Due to Lower-Than-Expected COVID-19 Vaccine Sales

Pfizer is cutting 500 jobs at its Sandwich, Kent site in the UK as part of a cost-cutting effort.
The job cuts follow the discontinuation of its Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule (PSSM) operations at the site.
The layoffs are part of a $3.5 billion cost-cutting program announced in October due to lower-than-expected sales of its COVID-19 vaccine and treatment.
Most of the job losses are scientist roles, with some administrative roles also being cut.
The roles will be moved to other PSSM sites in Chennai, India and Connecticut, the United States.
