Pew: Most Latinos Say They’re Worse Off Under Trump’s Second Term

The bilingual national survey points to deportation crackdowns plus rising costs as the main drivers of discontent heading into the 2026 midterms.

Overview

  • About 70% of Latino adults disapprove of President Trump’s job performance and roughly four in five say his policies harm Hispanics.
  • On immigration, 65% disapprove of the administration’s approach and 71% say deportation efforts are excessive, with 59% reporting raids in their communities and 52% worried they or someone close could be deported.
  • Economically, 61% say Trump’s policies have made conditions worse, most rate the economy negatively, and about half report difficulty affording essentials like food, housing or medical care.
  • A record 68% say the situation for Hispanics worsened over the past year, 55% express serious concerns about their place in the U.S., and roughly one in three have considered leaving the country.
  • Partisan divides persist as 81% of Latinos who voted for Trump in 2024 approve of his performance while Latino Republicans grow more critical of deportations; Pew surveyed 4,923 Latino adults Oct. 6–16 with a margin of error of ±2.6 points, a shift that could influence 2026 contests.
