Petrobras Starts Production on P-78 FPSO at Búzios, Boosting Field Capacity

Petrobras expects an eighth Búzios platform to start in the second quarter, taking capacity to roughly 1.3 million barrels a day.

Overview

  • Output from the P-78 began on December 31, 2025, lifting Búzios’ installed capacity to about 1.15 million barrels per day.
  • The FPSO is designed to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and compress 7.2 million cubic meters of gas daily.
  • Part of the gas will be exported to shore via the Rota 3 pipeline, potentially adding up to 3 million cubic meters per day to Brazil’s supply.
  • P-78 is the seventh system at Búzios and the first of Petrobras’ new reference-design FPSOs with emissions-reduction features such as flare gas recovery and variable-speed equipment.
  • Petrobras says the next platform is slated for the second quarter of 2026, which would raise the field’s capacity to around 1.3 million barrels per day.
