Petition Launched to Block Sale of Munich’s Old Justice Complex

A new petition seeks to halt the planned sale, currently counting 48 signatures with a 6 October cutoff.

Overview

  • Bavaria plans to sell the 1970s Strafjustizzentrum at Nymphenburger Straße 16 after courts relocate to the new Leonrodplatz complex in 2026.
  • Construction minister Christian Bernreiter cited strained state finances and the need to use limited funds to create affordable housing.
  • The petition titled “Wohnraum statt Rendite – Verkauf des Justizzentrums stoppen!” was started on 25 August by the Münchner Forum’s Junges Forum, the Mieterverein München, abbrechenabbrechen and #ausspekuliert.
  • Greencity and Bündnis Freiräumen support the effort, which calls for no sale to private investors, prevention of demolition and examination of reuse concepts to deliver affordable housing.
  • As of 28 August, the petition had 48 signatures toward a 6,400‑supporter quorum in Munich and remains open until 6 October, while Mayor Dieter Reiter has appealed to Markus Söder to stop the sale.
