Peter Bendix, former general manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, has been appointed as the new president of baseball operations for the Miami Marlins, making him the third president in the club's history.
Bendix, who has spent his entire 15-year Major League Baseball career with the Rays, was convinced to join the Marlins after a 'thorough' hiring process and discussions with Miami's chairman and principal owner, Bruce Sherman.
Bendix will take over the department previously overseen by Kim Ng, who left the Marlins last month after she and Sherman could not agree on the structure of the department going forward.
During his time with the Rays, Bendix was part of a team that consistently made the playoffs despite a payroll that ranks among the bottom third of the 30 teams, a success the Marlins hope to replicate.
Bendix's philosophy on roster construction involves constant evaluation and improvement, and he plans to bring this approach to the Marlins, who struggled to attract high-profile hitters last season despite having strong pitching.
