Petaluma Elementary School Counselor Arrested on Suspicion of Lewd Acts With Child Under 14

Investigators seek additional victims, with the school district pledging cooperation.

  • After interviewing the alleged victim, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for counselor John Conant, 66, of Sebastopol.
  • Conant was arrested early Monday and booked into the Sonoma County Main Adult Detention Facility on suspicion of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14.
  • Bail was set at $250,000, and sheriff’s officials said they believe there may be additional victims connected to his position at the school.
  • The Sheriff’s Office urged anyone with information to call the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Unit at 707-565-8290, as the interim superintendent said the district is working with investigators.
