Overview

  • Ed escaped from the Ford family’s Christiana home on May 31, less than 24 hours after arriving from a Texas breeder.
  • Motorists and deputies shut down Interstate 24 when Ed was filmed running alongside traffic.
  • The week-long search relied on drones, community sightings, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and support from Tennessee Highway Patrol, Wildlife Resources Agency and Tango 82 Aviation.
  • On June 8, Ed was spotted in a pasture near Buchanan Estates subdivision and airlifted by helicopter back to a waiting trailer.
  • The incident has prompted scrutiny of Tennessee’s permissive exotic pet laws that allow private ownership of zebras without special permits.
