Peshawar High Court Bans KP’s Use of State Resources for Political Events

The court cites constitutional guarantees, calling diversion of public assets a misuse of authority.

Overview

  • The four-page written order restrains the provincial administration from deploying government vehicles, machinery or personnel for protests, rallies, long marches or similar political activity.
  • The bench held that such use violates Articles 4, 5 and 25 of the Constitution and amounts to misconduct, abuse of authority and waste of public funds.
  • Judges directed all relevant authorities to ensure no official resources under their control are used or permitted to be used for partisan purposes.
  • The petitioner alleged KP departments had used rescue equipment, fire brigades, heavy machinery and staff for PTI-linked events, with some equipment from past protests reported to be in the Centre’s custody.
  • Coverage recalls a prior Interior Ministry letter instructing the KP bureaucracy that state machinery, officials and finances must not be utilised for a party’s political protests.
