Peru’s Transport Ministry To File Criminal Complaint Targeting Vizcarra Over Kuntur Wasi Payout

The move follows an arbitration ruling ordering compensation after the 2017 termination of the Chinchero airport concession.

Overview

  • Minister César Sandoval said the MTC’s legal office will seek charges naming former vice minister Fiorella Molinelli and about twenty other officials.
  • Sandoval stated the state faces roughly US$100 million in compensation but no funds will be disbursed until legal measures against those deemed responsible are pursued.
  • CIADI found Peru arbitrarily ended Kuntur Wasi’s contract and the arbitration tribunal subsequently declared the country in rebeldía for nonpayment.
  • The minister described the case as a serious harm to the state and asserted that former officials must answer before the justice system.
  • Separately, Sandoval signaled an imminent announcement of a major railway project with President Dina Boluarte expected to participate.
