Peru’s Third National Multi‑Hazard Drill Is Tonight at 8 p.m.

The exercise evaluates institutional protocols across region‑specific hazards, with an emphasis on household readiness.

Overview

  • The Presidency and INDECI urged nationwide participation in the 8:00 p.m. exercise held under the banner “Por un país preparado.”
  • The drill is multipeligro, covering scenarios such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, floods, urban fires and intense rains.
  • Eighteen departments will simulate an earthquake while seven will rehearse emergencies tied to heavy rainfall or huaicos, according to regional risk profiles.
  • For the earthquake scenario, sirens mark the start, people shelter in internal safe zones for two minutes, then evacuate to external meeting points with emergency kits; other hazards call for immediate evacuation along safe routes.
  • Families are asked to review their Emergency Family Plan, check their emergency backpack and reserve box, and the exercise will assess response plans under SINAGERD as part of activities for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction.
