Peru’s Public Ministry Reinstates Luis Arce Córdova as Supreme Prosecutor, Assigns Him to Supreme Family Prosecutor’s Office

The move implements a Lima court’s amparo that ordered reversal of his 2021 dismissal.

Overview

  • Resolution No. 3704-2025-MP-FN, published on December 11 in the official journal El Peruano, formalizes Arce Córdova’s return as a titular supreme prosecutor.
  • Interim prosecutor general Tomás Gálvez signed the designation assigning Arce to the Supreme Family Prosecutor’s Office, replacing Gianina Rosa Tapia Vivas.
  • The Junta Nacional de Justicia had already issued Resolution No. 713-2025-JNJ on December 4 to rehabilitate his professional title in compliance with the court order.
  • Gálvez told Canal N that Arce would not be placed in the office linked to the ‘Los Cuellos Blancos del Puerto’ case, saying such an assignment was not convenient given references to related investigations.
  • Arce was removed in July 2021 for faults deemed very serious, including an attempted resignation from the electoral jury during the presidential runoff and questions tied to contacts with former judge César Hinostroza.
