Overview
- INEI released preliminary results on Friday showing a total population of 34,157,732, with 32,706,028 people enumerated and a postcensal omission estimate of 1,451,704 (4.25%).
- The census records clear aging: the national average age rose to 34.2 years, the share under 15 fell to 22.7% and the share aged 60 or over rose to 14.8%, producing 65 older adults per 100 children.
- Lima Metropolitana now has 10,129,708 residents, about 29.7% of the national total, and logged a net internal inflow of roughly 2.3 million people while highland departments such as Cajamarca recorded the largest net outflows.
- The 2025 operation used electronic tablets, georeferencing and a postcensal survey carried out after the August–October field stage, and INEI published interactive data to support analysis and planning.
- Officials say the first results will guide decisions on pensions, health, education, housing and infrastructure as projections indicate the 60+ population could exceed children by 2040.
