Peru’s ONPE Finalizes 2026 Ballot Designs and Issues Rules for Public Party-Order Draw

The move clears the way for a public draw to set party order, paving the start of ballot production before the April 12 vote.

Overview

  • ONPE published Resolution No. 000008-2026-JN/ONPE with the definitive ballot models and Resolution No. 000007-2026-JN/ONPE with the draw instructions in El Peruano on January 17.
  • JNE informed on January 12 that no challenges were filed to the provisional designs, allowing ONPE to formalize the models under the electoral law timeline.
  • Three ballot types were approved: a five‑column general ballot (minimum 42 cm by 21 cm, length up to 44 cm), a three‑column ballot for active FF.AA. and PNP personnel (minimum 24 cm by 21 cm, length up to 44 cm), and a two‑option runoff ballot (21 cm by 15 cm).
  • Ballots include security features such as barcodes on both sides and security patterns bearing the initials JNE, ONPE and Reniec, with color differentiation by column and candidate photos for the presidential section.
  • The draw will consist of two lotteries in a single public act at ONPE headquarters with a notary and representatives from JNE and Reniec, covering general elections and a potential runoff, with results published by ONPE and in El Peruano and participation limited to parties that filed lists with the JEEs.
