Peru’s Long Weekend Set for Dec. 6–9 With Lima Tolls Suspended as Argentina Rules Out Extra Holiday

Private-sector work on Dec. 8 or 9 without a compensatory day triggers triple pay under Peruvian law.

Overview

  • Peru’s Dec. 8 (Immaculate Conception) and Dec. 9 (Battle of Ayacucho) national holidays create a four-day break from Saturday through Tuesday.
  • A court ordered the suspension of toll collection at the Villa and Punta Negra plazas on the Panamericana Sur from Dec. 6–9 to ensure free transit during the holiday window.
  • Rutas de Lima said it would cease operations citing cash depletion, and Lima’s municipal government will administer and maintain the road and keep tolls off during the judicial process.
  • Peruvian rules grant triple pay for private-sector staff who work on Dec. 8 or 9 without compensatory rest; with a compensatory day, pay is double, and no extra applies if the holiday matches the weekly rest day.
  • Argentina will not add a bridge day before Dec. 8 because all three 2025 discretionary tourism days under Law 27.399 were already used (May 2, Aug. 15, Nov. 21), leaving Dec. 8 and Dec. 25 as the remaining December holidays.
