Overview
- Operation Kallpa Wayka targeted three illegal bocaminas in the Pataz district on the route to the San Fernando annex, with authorities valuing the blow to illicit assets at S/2,259,560.
- Security forces reported seizing explosive materials, illegal mining equipment and about 300 sacks of polymetallic ore, while eight suspects were taken into National Police custody for alleged environmental crimes.
- Part of the seized materials was destroyed at the site to prevent reuse, and the intervention drew support from SUCAMEC, the Energy and Mines Ministry and the La Libertad anti–illegal-mining reaction group.
- Gen. David Ojeda Parra said the raid reflects CUPAZ’s discipline and tactical precision and reaffirmed a mission to restore security, order and legality in the province.
- The latest action extends a months-long campaign that has tallied 33 operations since May, interdicted dozens of sites and followed a Sept. 23 find of more than 120 dynamite cartridges, with cumulative losses to illegal networks reported above S/240 million.
