Peru’s Delegate Primaries Deliver First Confirmations as ONPE Posts Live Results

Parties now face a December 23 registration cutoff following JNE proclamations due by December 15.

Overview

  • ONPE installed 77 tables across 31 locales to receive votes from 1,206 delegates in 37 political organizations and began publishing rolling tallies using its STAE system with an on-site observation room for party monitors.
  • Partido Morado named Mesías Guevara its presidential nominee, Primero la Gente backed Marisol Pérez Tello, and the alliance Unidad Nacional confirmed Roberto Chiabra.
  • Acción Popular’s tally showed Julio Chávez edging Alfredo Barnechea by one delegate, a result disputed by party militants who alleged irregular changes to delegate lists.
  • Further proclamations included Fiorella Molinelli for the Fuerza y Libertad alliance, with many organizations presenting single slates that made delegate voting largely procedural.
  • A judicial order sought to suspend Ahora Nación’s delegate vote but the party proceeded, and the timeline now advances to registrations via Declara+ by December 23 and ONPE’s presentation of the near-final ballot on December 24.
