Peru’s Dec. 8–9 Holidays: Bank Branches Shut as Triple-Pay Rules Take Effect

Employees who work those dates qualify for triple pay if no compensatory rest day follows.

Overview

  • December 8 (Immaculate Conception) and December 9 (Battle of Ayacucho under Law No. 31381) are national holidays for both public and private sectors.
  • Major banks, including BCP, BBVA, Interbank and Banco de la Nación, suspend in-person service while keeping digital banking, ATMs and agent networks available.
  • Interbank maintains limited service at its Jorge Chávez International Airport branch, and BCP provides phone and social support from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Banco de la Nación reports no branch attention on either day, directing customers to its mobile app and remote channels.
  • Supermarket chains publish special hours for the holiday period, with examples such as Tottus and Makro from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Plaza Vea, Metro, Wong and Vivanda largely from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
