Peru’s Construction Surges Early in 2026, Outlook Turns Cautious

Analysts warn the surge will ease due to fuel shortages, budget strains, plus El Niño risk.

Overview

  • Peru’s builders posted an estimated 13.3% jump in February 2026, lifting growth for the first two months to 14.5% after December and January also rose by double digits.
  • Public works, which are government-funded projects, grew 22.2% in February after a 24.5% rise in January, while cement use climbed 10.9%.
  • The Central Reserve Bank of Peru raised its 2026 construction forecast to 6%, and it now expects private investment to grow by about 9.5%.
  • Capeco, the construction chamber, said growth will likely slip back to single digits this year, noting that a March fuel shortage already pushed up costs and slowed output.
  • The group also flagged weak project execution and possible funding shortfalls at health and infrastructure agencies Pronis and ANIN, plus a roughly 55% chance of a moderate El Niño that could damage homes and roads in cities like Arequipa and Piura.
