Overview
- Lawmakers passed Legislative Resolution 13436/2025-CR by a 73–25–2 vote, authorizing U.S. Department of Defense personnel from January 1 to December 31, 2026.
- U.S. contingents will rotate every three to six months to train with CIOEC, FEC, FOES, GRUFE, Army Special Forces brigades, DIRANDRO and DIROES.
- Planned activities will take place in regions including Lima, Callao, Loreto, San Martín, Huánuco, Ucayali, Pasco, Junín, Cusco, Ayacucho, Iquitos, Pucusana, Puerto Maldonado and Apurímac.
- The authorization allows standard military equipment for training use only, including M4 rifles, Glock or M17 pistols, M249 and M240 machine guns, M320 grenade launchers, mortars, sniper systems, SCAR rifles and shotguns.
- Officials describe the presence as routine bilateral cooperation unrelated to U.S.–Venezuela frictions, with schedules and security protocols to be finalized by Peru’s executive and Pentagon planners.
