Peru’s Central Bank Circulates Updated S/200 Note With Wider Two-Colour Security Thread

The central bank says a wider two-colour thread creating a clearer motion effect will make authentication easier.

Overview

  • The Banco Central de Reserva confirmed the revised 200-soles banknote entered circulation in February 2026.
  • The security thread is now 5 mm wide, up from 4 mm, and displays blue and green for clearer identification.
  • The thread’s synchronized motion effect becomes apparent when the note is slightly tilted, enabling quick checks without special equipment.
  • New and existing 200-soles notes will circulate together and both remain fully valid for all transactions.
  • All other features from the 2021 De La Rue series are unchanged, including the Tilsa Tsuchiya watermark, Spark Live ink, UV elements, tactile relief, and reverse motifs of the spatule-tailed hummingbird and amancaes.
