Overview
- Asbanc launched the web-based 'Llama aquí' feature on 1820.pe Monday so Peruvians abroad can place an internet call that connects them to participating banks’ blocking areas.
- The platform is free, operates 24 hours a day, and links 21 financial institutions that together cover roughly nine of every ten cards issued in Peru.
- 1820.pe serves as a routing tool: a virtual operator transfers the caller to each bank’s own blocking unit and each bank must execute its own block.
- Since the line began on July 9, 2024, Asbanc says the service has logged more than 1.5 million users, about 290,000 blocks, an average response time near 3.5 minutes, and an estimated S/353 million in fraud prevented.
- The change should help travelers act faster after a loss or theft—cutting international-call barriers—but it depends on an internet connection and still requires separate calls for cards at different banks, so users should be ready to contact each issuer in turn.
