Overview
- Sunday’s procession set off under the slogan “Imagine all the people,” with the head of the march expected to reach Assisi around 3 p.m.
- A large civic and institutional contingent is on the route, including Umbria’s president Stefania Proietti, Perugia provincial president Massimiliano Presciutti and Perugia mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi, alongside party leaders such as Giuseppe Conte and Elly Schlein and union chief Maurizio Landini.
- Participants are walking behind a “Fraternità” banner and a large drape bearing rainbow and Palestinian colors, with many messages focused on solidarity with Gaza.
- Fondazione Perugia-Assisi president Flavio Lotti called for converting the march’s energy into rebuilding a conscience, culture and politics of peace, saying, “Today we are here for them” in reference to Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan.
- Organizers and reporters describe one of the most attended editions in years, with Lotti comparing the turnout to 2001 and noting an unusually strong presence of children.
