Overview
- The transfer from Lima and Callao to the high-altitude Challapalca facility was carried out on January 5 under strict protocols with no incidents reported, and Tacna police announced reinforced security at the prison.
- The group came from five prisons: Lurigancho (29), Ancón I (22), Miguel Castro Castro (20), Callao (22) and Huaral (7).
- Sixty-six are sentenced and 34 are facing trial, linked to aggravated robbery (56), organized crime (19), contract killing (8), extortion (6), homicide (6), illicit arms trafficking (3) and drug trafficking (2).
- INPE chief Iván Paredes directed the operation with oversight from Justice Minister Walter Martínez, executed by the GOES special unit with support from the National Police.
