Overview
- Sunarp will issue the new RFID-equipped plates for motorcycles sold from December 17, 2025, under a standard confirmed by transport authorities.
- The mandatory replacement for existing motorcycles and trimotos will run from February 2026 to November 2031 on a schedule set by the MTC based on the last digit of current plates.
- The rear plate is larger with a white background and seven alphanumeric characters, and a transparent holographic label on the headlight carries the RFID tag.
- The chip stores the plate number and engine serial with a unique identifier, allowing PNP and Sutran to confirm registration status and alerts in seconds; it does not record speed or full routes.
- Noncompliance will be penalized from October 2026 as violation M24, with fines and possible vehicle retention, and the rollout will cover about 3.7 million motorcycles and trimotos as some rider groups flag cost and fit concerns.
