Peru to Open Voter-Location Selection on Nov. 23 as Record 65 Presidential Slates Enter Primaries

The rollout follows a frozen voter roll that limits picks to the DNI district under mixed primary rules.

Overview

  • ONPE will activate the Elige tu local de votación platform from Nov. 23 to Dec. 14, letting voters choose up to three sites near the address on their DNI, with final assignment communicated later.
  • Choices are restricted to the district listed on the DNI as of the Oct. 14 electoral roll cutoff, so address changes made after that date will not apply for this election.
  • RENIEC’s initial voter roll includes 27,356,578 eligible voters in Peru and abroad.
  • Thirty-seven of 39 organizations submitted primary slates, totaling 65 presidential tickets and 195 aspirants; Ciudadanos por el Perú and Frepap did not register presidential formulas, with Morgan Quero’s bid rejected for not appearing on the approved padrón.
  • Primaries are scheduled for Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, with a mix of direct voting and delegate-based selections, and reporting highlights very small delegate bodies in some groups even as the government pledges funding after JNE budget warnings.
