Overview
- The Instituto Nacional de Defensa Civil has scheduled the III Simulacro Nacional Multipeligro for Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 8:00 p.m., asking citizens, institutions and businesses to take part in the nationwide exercise.
- The drill uses differentiated scenarios so Lima and Callao will simulate a large-magnitude earthquake while other regions practice responses to heavy rains, floods, lahars and landslides.
- Participants will hear sirens, horns and bells, remain in an indoor safe area for the first two minutes, then evacuate in an orderly way carrying an emergency backpack to predesignated outdoor safe sites.
- National systems will send test alerts during the exercise: SASPE will trigger audible alarms and SISMATE will send push messages to compatible cell phones without needing data or airtime.
- Local authorities are applying recent local lessons—Yanahuara has named Parque San Agustín and Calle Los Gladiolos as safe sites after February lahar incidents—and Indeci urges families to use the I‑U‑E‑A‑O plan to identify hazards, map safe zones, assign roles and prepare supplies.
