Peru Steps Up DNIe 3.0 Rollout With Free San Martín de Porres Drive

The chip-enabled card is designed to secure digital services, speeding replacements through a new printing network.

Overview

  • RENIEC has stopped issuing the blue and yellow IDs and now provides only the DNI electrónico 3.0, which adds a cryptographic chip, QR code and 64 security elements for digital authentication and signature.
  • A free DNI service day is scheduled for Monday, September 29 in San Martín de Porres for applicants up to 17 years old at DEMUNA SMP (Jirón Pedregal 406) from 9:00 to 12:00 with limited slots on a first‑come basis.
  • Required documents for the SMP campaign include a copy of the minor’s birth certificate, a recent household utility bill and the representative’s ID, with renewals or rectifications also requesting the prior DNI when available.
  • RENIEC says 31 printing centers now allow faster delivery of duplicates, in many cases the same day, with data updates typically ready in two to three days.
  • For Elections 2026, RENIEC’s chief said ONPE has indicated that DNIe holders could cast a digital vote, while unexpired blue DNIs would still be valid for voting.
