Peru Steps Up DNIe 3.0 Rollout With Free Local Drives as Address Update Deadline Nears

The agency confirms older blue and yellow IDs remain valid until their printed expiration.

Overview

  • RENIEC has issued only the DNIe 3.0 since August 28 and is offering promotional fees through December 31 (S/30 for adults and S/16 for minors).
  • Municipal campaigns are providing free services: Ancón on September 19 at OPAMED, Rímac on September 20 at Parque de la Marina, and Lince on September 29 for children and teens at Casa del Vecino with limited slots and free photos.
  • Citizens have until October 14 to update their domicile for the electoral roll to secure nearby polling locations, with a possible S/16 sanction for failing to register changes in time under Law 30338.
  • High demand is causing long queues in Huancayo, where the Junín office added 10 intake and 4 pickup windows and extended hours from 7:45 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday mornings.
  • The DNIe 3.0 includes about 64 security elements, a cryptographic chip, a QR code and a polycarbonate card, has surpassed one million issuances since April, and older DNIs can be used to vote in 2026 if unexpired.
