Overview
- The Ninth Constitutional Court in Lima re-served the JNJ with a ruling giving it two days to restore Delia Espinoza after correcting a misdelivered notice.
- The JNJ filed a competence dispute before the Constitutional Court to annul Resolution No. 9 and reaffirm its exclusive disciplinary powers, alleging an extra petita ruling.
- Congress’s Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations approved, by 9–2–2, a report recommending 10-year disqualification and criminal referrals for Espinoza, Juan Carlos Villena, Pablo Sánchez and Zoraida Ávalos for alleged abuse of authority, generic falsehood, prevarication and instigation of usurpation of functions.
- The report now proceeds to the Permanent Commission and then the full Congress, where final disqualification would require a qualified majority of at least 66 votes.
- Interim prosecutor general Tomás Gálvez said he will not relinquish the office without a formal JNJ order, as the Constitutional Court process moves forward with the judiciary granted 30 business days to respond before a public hearing.
