Peru Sets Sept. 29 Reopening for Jaén Airport as Caballococha Prepares for October

The move seeks to restore regional connectivity after years of delays on runway works.

Overview

  • Transport minister César Sandoval announced that Jaén’s Fernando Belaunde Terry airport will resume flights on September 29, 2025, after more than two years without service.
  • The terminal has been closed since June 4, 2022 due to a deteriorated runway, with maintenance by Consorcio Jaén delayed past a reported September 22 completion date.
  • Caballococha airport in Loreto is expected to begin operations in October 2025 as its terminal construction reaches the final stage.
  • Sandoval pointed to Jauja’s rebound to more than 4,000 weekly passengers since reopening as an example of gains for mobility and local trade.
  • The MTC also outlined steps for the Plan Nacional Ferroviario, including a government-to-government call for the Lima–Ica line with interest from eight countries, and scheduled a September 25 briefing on irregularities found in sector projects.
