Peru Sets Party Primaries for Nov. 30 and Dec. 7 as APRA, Renovación Face Turnout Test

Two organizations must clear a 10% affiliate participation bar or lose the right to register candidates.

Overview

  • All 39 registered political organizations will hold internal primaries to finalize 2026 slates, with affiliate voting on Nov. 30 and delegate decisions on Dec. 7 under ONPE supervision.
  • Only APRA and Renovación Popular will vote by the closed affiliate modality, which requires at least 10% turnout to validate results before the JNE.
  • JNE figures list 64,466 APRA affiliates and 50,886 for Renovación Popular, setting minimums of 6,447 and 5,089 votes respectively to keep their nominations alive.
  • ONPE estimates more than 2.2 million affiliates are eligible overall, with over 570 polling tables for Nov. 30 and 1,291 delegates voting at 77 tables on Dec. 7.
  • Most parties chose the delegate route and submitted single or uncontested lists, with regional filings such as Piura showing largely one-list slates, while results will be proclaimed Dec. 15 and candidate registrations are due by Dec. 23.
