Peru Sets Oct. 4, 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections as Subnational Calendar Launches

The decree activates a binding timetable overseen by JNE, ONPE and RENIEC for alliances, primaries and candidate registration.

Overview

  • The Executive formalized the call via Supreme Decree No. 001-2026-PCM published in El Peruano, fixing the vote for Sunday, October 4, 2026.
  • Voters will choose regional governors, vice-governors and councilors, as well as provincial and district mayors and councilors nationwide; current mandates end December 31, 2026 with new authorities serving 2027–2030.
  • The JNE set key milestones: January 17 as the deadline to register electoral alliances, primaries on May 17 and 24, and June 16 as the cutoff to file candidate lists.
  • Parties faced January 7 deadlines to secure ROP registration, file internal rule changes and register affiliates eligible to run, pursuant to recent legal adjustments.
  • The JNE begins public hearings on January 8 to resolve initial candidate-registration appeals for the General Elections, while ONPE scheduled the nationwide draw of polling-station members for January 29.
