Peru Sets Oct. 4, 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections as JNE Publishes Key Deadlines

Electoral tribunals are already vetting inscriptions, with cases moving to public appeals sessions.

Overview

  • The Supreme Decree No. 001-2026-PCM formally convokes the subnational vote to elect governors, vice governors, regional councilors, and provincial and district mayors nationwide.
  • The official calendar sets key milestones: alliances until January 17, voter roll closure on April 7, primaries on May 17 and 24, list registration by June 16, and publication of admitted lists by August 5.
  • JNE rules mandate 50/50 gender parity with alternation, at least 20% candidates aged 18–29, a minimum 15% representation of native/campesino communities, and allow up to 30% direct designations.
  • JEEs are enforcing fast rectification windows, including an inadmissible ruling against APRA’s Lima deputies list for formal and background issues and a demand that Perú Primero present Mario Vizcarra’s full sentence and rehabilitation record.
  • The JNE Plenary begins public virtual hearings on January 8 to resolve more than 30 appeals, while ONPE and RENIEC advance logistical tasks aligned to the published timetable.
