Peru Sets December 17 Start for RFID-Equipped Motorcycle Plates

RFID capability is intended to enable real-time verification at control points by enforcement agencies.

Overview

  • Issuance of the redesigned plates begins on December 17, 2025, according to the Asociación Automotriz del Perú.
  • The new format features a larger white rear plate with seven digits, plus an RFID tag affixed to the front headlight via a holographic laminate.
  • RFID data will include the license number and engine serial, allowing antenna readers to support real-time checks by the National Police and Sutran.
  • The Transport Ministry will mandate a phased replacement for existing motorcycles from February 2026 through November 2031, scheduled by the last digit of current plates.
  • Noncompliance during assigned windows will draw penalties starting in October 2026, with violations treated as riding without a plate, according to La Hora.
