Peru Sets Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 Public-Sector Breaks as Argentina Keeps Dec. 26 a Normal Workday Nationally

The moves extend public-sector weekends to support domestic tourism.

Overview

  • Peru’s Supreme Decree No. 042-2025-PCM designates Dec. 26, 2025 and Jan. 2, 2026 as non-working days for public employees.
  • Peruvian public-sector hours not worked must be recovered later, typically within 10 days or on a schedule set by each entity.
  • In Peru, private employers may opt in by agreement with workers, otherwise operations continue as usual.
  • Essential and strategic services in Peru can be exempted to ensure continuity, covering health care, security, utilities, transport, hotels, restaurants and financial services.
  • Argentina has no nationwide bridge holiday on Friday, Dec. 26, though Buenos Aires, Tucumán and Jujuy granted administrative leave for provincial public employees, while banks and most private-sector workplaces operate normally.
