Overview
- The Education Commission approved a draft plan to raise public-school teacher pay using a new salary scale that would reach up to S/252 per hour initially and could climb to S/315 by 2028.
- Illustrative monthly pay under the draft scale includes S/3,600 at the first tier, S/4,680 at the fourth, and S/7,560 at the eighth for 30-hour positions, with higher amounts for 40-hour workloads.
- If endorsed by the full Congress, the reform would cover more than 400,000 teachers and would require coordination between the Education Ministry and the Economy and Finance Ministry to secure funding.
- A separate bill from Congressman Segundo Montalvo proposes lifting the annual Bono Escolaridad from S/400 to S/1,130 by tying it to the current minimum wage and paying it in January each year.
- The bonus proposal also seeks to peg July and December holiday payments to the minimum wage, with any changes slated to begin under the 2026 public budget if approved.
