Peru Opens Voter-Location Selection as JNE Centralizes Presidential Filings for 2026 Elections

Centralization with fixed deadlines is meant to standardize rulings across a crowded contest.

Overview

  • ONPE will activate the Elige tu local de votación platform from Nov. 23 to Dec. 14, letting voters preselect up to three nearby sites tied to the DNI address valid as of the Oct. 14 padrón cutoff.
  • RENIEC delivered the preliminary electoral roll on Nov. 13, listing 27,356,578 voters, and the JNE has until Dec. 13 to validate and approve the definitive padrón.
  • Thirty-seven of 39 organizations filed presidential slates for primaries, confirming a record 65 planchas (195 aspirants), while Ciudadanos por el Perú and FREPAP did not present presidential formulas.
  • JNE Resolution Nº 0624-2025 designates JEE Lima Centro 1 as the single venue for registering presidential formulas and for first-instance actions such as qualifications, challenges, exclusions and candidate withdrawals.
  • The same resolution assigns JEE Lima Oeste 2 for Senate lists and JEE Lima Centro 2 for Parliament Andean lists (and Peruvians abroad for deputies), with party primaries set for Nov. 30 and Dec. 7, JNE proclamations due by Dec. 15, and final candidate registrations due Dec. 23.
